As a traveling yacht chef, I've been fortunate enough to explore some of the most exotic destinations on the planet. From the turquoise waters of the Caribbean to the bustling ports of the Mediterranean, my culinary journey has been nothing short of a wild adventure. And recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing the delicate flavor of Tarragon, a herb that is not only delicious but also has a fascinating history.
Tarragon, also known as Artemisia dracunculus, is a perennial herb that is native to the temperate regions of Eurasia. The herb has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and was once thought to have mystical powers. In ancient Greece, it was believed to cure toothaches and relieve insomnia, while in the Middle Ages, it was used as a remedy for snake bites.
Today, Tarragon is widely used in French cuisine, where it is known as the "king of herbs." Its delicate anise-like flavor pairs well with fish, chicken, and vegetables, making it a popular ingredient in sauces and dressings. In fact, it is a key ingredient in the famous Béarnaise sauce, which is served with steak.
